Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets are a professional
basketball team based in Denver, Colorado, that competes in the National
Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference
Northwest Division123. They were founded in 1967 as the Denver Larks and joined
the NBA in 1976 after merging with the American Basketball Association (ABA).
They have won three division titles (1977, 1978 and 2019) and reached the
Western Conference Finals three times (1985, 2009 and 2020), but have never
advanced to the NBA Finals. Some of their notable players include Alex English,
David Thompson, Dikembe Mutombo, Carmelo Anthony, Nikola Jokić and Jamal
Murray. Their current head coach is Michael Malone and their home arena is Ball
Arena.
As of April 30, 2023, the Denver Nuggets
have a record of 53-29 and are ranked first in the Northwest Division and
second in the Western Conference. They are currently playing against the
Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs and have a 2-0 lead
in the best-of-seven series.

The Denver Nuggets are a professional

The team was founded in 1967 as the Denver
Larks, one of the charter franchises of the American Basketball Association
(ABA), but changed their name to Rockets before the first season. They changed
their name again to Nuggets in 1974, inspired by the original Denver Nuggets
team that played in the National Basketball League (NBL) from 1948 to 1950.
The Nuggets joined the NBA in 1976 after
the ABA-NBA merger and have qualified for the playoffs 26 times. They have won
three division titles in the ABA (1970, 1975) and 10 in the NBA (1977, 1978,
1985, 1988, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2019, 2020, 2023). They have reached the Western
Conference Finals three times (1985, 2009, and 2020), but have never advanced to
the NBA Finals.
The Nuggets have retired seven numbers: #2
Alex English, #12 Fat Lever, #33 David Thompson, #40 Byron Beck, #44 Dan Issel,
#55 Dikembe Mutombo, and #432 Doug Moe. They also have a number of players who
have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, such as
Thompson, Issel, Mutombo, and Allen Iverson.
The Nuggets play their home games at Ball
Arena, which they share with the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey
League (NHL) and the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
Their current head coach is Michael Malone and their general manager is Calvin
Booth. Their main sponsor is Western Union.
The Nuggets are known for their high-scoring offense and fast-paced style of play. Some of their current stars include Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon. Jokić won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 2021 and became the first player in franchise history to do so.
